Efforts to improve the quality of pediatric outpatient nursing

In pediatric outpatient clinics (outpatient clinics that provide medical care for children from newborns to about graduation from junior high school), “medical conflicts” are likely to occur with family members regarding medical care and care for pediatric patients. Nurses, who work as the core of medical staff, find it particularly difficult to deal with them, causing depression and turnover. The victims feel angry and difficult about the troubles that have occurred, but endure it as a self-responsibility due to problems such as “medical conflicts” or “inexperienced procedures and responses”. It has been reported that he holds it without consulting(Gerberich et al, 2000; Iwao et al., 2013).

In this initiative, we will analyze the “problems” of nurses caused by “medical conflicts” between children / family members and medical staff / related persons in the pediatric outpatient department, and the actual conditions (contents and trends) of preventive measures and coping methods for them. In addition, we will formulate a response guideline and develop and build a remote learning support / consultation system to strengthen outpatient nursing practice ability in light of the guideline. As an example, “Currently, multiple infants who are vaccinated are wrapped in towels, pressed down, and injected. I would like to try it, but I do not know the specific method of preparation.” “I don’t know what to do when a family with a lot of problems rants.” If “problems” are mentioned, first learn the knowledge required in each situation and the measures to be taken with the online self-learning content in the tool. Furthermore, we aim to build a system that can also be used as a chat salon where you can consult with fellow nurses nationwide about problems and prevention / coping. The ultimate goal of this study is for nurses to develop nursing practices without any “problems” and to contribute to improving the quality of care for outpatients and their families.
